For the top and base, wide book matched veneers emphasize the beauty of the wood which enhances the overall visual effect.
I am very happy with this design - very clean and sculptural - and I feel it's one of my best efforts. It was a structural challenge, which I really enjoyed. It is all built using torsion boxes, adding to the strength throughout. This piece is solid as a rock and does have some weight. My estimate is about 125 lbs.
